Peterborough-Kawartha Liberal Association Annual General Meeting

Posted on June 27, 2016

The Peterborough-Kawartha Federal Liberal Association held its Annual General Meeting on March 31, 2016.

As PKFLA President Jim Patterson noted in his opening remarks, this was the first time in many years that the Association has held its AGM with a Liberal representing our riding in Parliament. The Hon. Maryam Monsef, MP for Peterborough-Kawartha and Minister of Democratic Institutions in the cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was welcomed with a standing ovation by those in attendance.

The primary business of the meeting was the election of our Riding Association Executive for 2016-17. The elected executive is listed on the next page. The meeting also adopted a revised PKFLA constitution.

The highlight of the evening was an informal speech by the Hon. Maryam Monsef.

Maryam expressed her sincere thanks to the entire Peterborough-Kawartha Riding Association – members, volunteers and donors – for all that was done to help her to become our Member of Parliament. She went through the room, thanking everyone by name for their particular contribution.

Maryam also expressed her profound respect for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and all of her colleagues in Caucus and Cabinet. She spoke of her joy to be working with a group of people who were in government “for all the right reasons.”

Maryam promised all those in attendance that she would continue to focus on the needs of Peterbrough-Kawartha, even as she faced the challenges of her cabinet position.
